This last weekend was the Affiliate Summit down in Las Vegas, for anyone who has not been there it’s a great event. Many of the top vendors, merchants, and affiliates are walking the halls. If you make one good contact or get one great idea, the entire trip has paid for it self. Of all the networking and material you learn, the most important thing from any conference is what you do right when you get back. You come back with a million ideas and half a dozen directions to go in, but if you never put anything into action then it was all a waste of time. Action is needed, even if you have no idea of how your going to get from point A to Z, all you need to do is get from A to B, C will follow.

Dan,
You are correct - all the good info gathered will be pointless if we don’t follow up and do so quickly. I met a lot of people at this conference and got excited about testing a few different offers but already they are fading from my memory and I wonder if there isn’t a better way than trading business cards for remembering what I spoke about with various vendors and/or affiliates. I noticed a business card the other day that had a picture of the person on one side and had checkboxes on the back to mark what you discussed with the person. This to me seems like a great idea - has anyone tried this or something similar? I’d be anxious to hear some feedback.

I saw the same card as Ryan did with the picture of the person on the front and a lot of different check boxes on the back. I loved this approach for two reasons. One a picture helps remind me who it was I talked to and can help reinforce how interested was in a particular product or service. The second is the check boxes on the back help crystallize the service I was interested in. Many people represent companies with a wide variety of products and services, this helps zero in on the product/service of interest. I’m thinking of taking this approach because I represent a wide variety of interests including this blog, BlogRyan, bMarketer, and NBAWire to name just a few. So you can expect to see me sporting these type of business cards at the next industry event I attend.
